Qatar - travel book of culture
When I received a proposition by Qatar Museums to create a travelbook about the country, I must confess that I knew very few about Qatar's culture, except the recent inauguration of the national museum, an oversized sand rose designed by french architect Jean Nouvel. So, the first place I visited was the national museum, to check if it looks as outstanding as expected (it is even better on location), then to get an introduction to Qatar's culture, art and heritage. During the 3 following weeks, I met artists, curators, craftsmen, chefs, musiciens… I visited the most iconic institutions of the country and captured in my sketchbook beautiful encounters and moments.I shared arabic coffee in majliz, tasted madrooba, regag and luqaimat, portrayed the last pearl diver or the camel races. I enjoyed a dhow tour admiring the skyline on West Bay. I explored the exotic landscapes in the desert and the mangrove, from sealine beach, singing sand dunes, ghost villages on the north coast, unique natural formations in Zekreet and contemplated a sunset over Richard Serra's monumental sculptures.
At the end of my journey, Qatar's culture and hospitality became more familiar. This are all those discoveries and experiences that I am sharing with you in this travelbook of culture of Qatar.
Bon voyage!
